Backing Up & Restoring |
Backing
Up:
For anyone who has ever lost data, you know the importance
of backing up. People always ask, "How often should I
back-up?" How far back are you willing to re-enter data
you’ve lost? That’s how often you should back-up.
"Where should we back-up to?" Ideally, a CD rom, however,
will you do it and will you take it off-site? A thumb drive
is relatively inexpensive and can go on your keychain,
you’ll remember to take it, probably no matter what. Backing
up to another computer on the network is easy and it will
guard against corrupted files and hard drive failure,
however, it will do you no good in the event of a fire or a
virus that attacks all computers on your network.
When you first log into Tow Dawg a Back Up Reminder screen
will appear. Click OK. Select a File to Back-up To
screen appears. The Look-In will probably default to the Tow
Dawg folder. This is where you choose where you are
saving the back-up file. A CD rom, another computer on your
network, a thumb drive, or the Tow Dawg folder on your own
computer. Type the file name of your choice, i.e.
040104td, whatever you’d like, but be consistent. Click the
Open button. That’s it!
Restoring:
If you need to restore to a back-up follow the steps in
Section 2 "Linking to a Database" and link to your most
recent back-up file. |
